Replacement keys for lost, stolen or damaged car keys
Losing a car key is stressful, and it usually happens at the worst time. A key that is bent, cracked, worn smooth or snapped off in a lock needs attention too. Precision Lock & Key can make a replacement key and get it working with your vehicle, at your location, at any hour.
Key cutting and key programming
Most newer vehicles use a transponder key: a key with a small chip that communicates with the vehicle. Cutting the metal blade is only half the job. The new key also has to be programmed so the vehicle recognizes it. Others use a remote head key or a smart key fob, which have their own programming steps.
- Traditional keys: cut to match the lock
- Transponder keys: cut and programmed to the vehicle
- Remote head keys: a key and remote in one, cut and programmed
- Smart keys: see key fob programming
What if I have lost all of my keys?
Losing every key is a common reason people call. In many cases a new key can still be made, though the process depends on the vehicle. Call us with the year, make and model and we will explain your options. If you are also locked out, see our vehicle lockout service.
Think about a spare before you need one
Having a second key made while you still have a working one is usually simpler than replacing a key when none are left. If you only have one key, it is worth considering a spare.
